3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9820 is a two-part epoxy adhesive formulated for design flexibility in OEM automotive applications such as structural and chassis assemblies. Excellent for bonding carbon composites, it cures at low temps and delivers the mechanical performance of 1K even on oily metals. Bonded substructures can be stored up to two months before full curing.
A Two-Part Structural Adhesive for Greater Design Flexibility
Formulated for longer storage and lower cure temperatures, our 3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9820 is ideal for bonding materials such as carbon fiber in automotive OEM structures and substructures. The adhesive cures well below the glass transition temperature at which the resin degrades in many types of composites.
This two-part epoxy adhesive affords the bond strength of a one-part adhesive. It can be induction cured at temperatures as low as 80°C (176°F), which allows for carbon fiber and other components to be effectively bonded to metals such as aluminum without distortion or resin degradation.
An Adhesive for Improved Production Efficiency
3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9820 allows for bonded substructures to be stored up to two months before full E-coat /paint cycle curing – allowing for much greater flexibility during production. The non-sag, non-slump formula delivers excellent gap-filling properties and can be applied either robotically or manually for low-volume or premium higher-volume OEMs. The two-part formula turns orange when properly mixed, creating a clear visual indicator for consistent quality control.
Better Science for Better Adhesion from 3M
Since 1925 when one of our lab assistants invented masking tape, 3M has been applying science to life –developing adhesive products and technologies that help entire industries and individual businesses worldwide. The work that began with a single 3M engineer now spans decades and generations – and all of it goes into each of our products developed for automotive OEM, like 3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9820.
